When starting my gluten-free life, I had a hard time speaking up for what I needed when I was out at restaurants.
It was very uncomfortable, worrying I was being “too much” and bothering the waitstaff, especially when out with people I didn’t know well.
How do you feel about speaking up for your gluten-free needs?
Does it make you feel uncomfortable?
It is understandable to worry about being judged or inconveniencing anyone.
But, I want you to know that advocating for yourself is a very important skill you can and need to build in your gluten-free life.
Last week on the podcast, I shared why it may be hard to speak up and what happens when we do advocate for our GF needs. (link below)
This week, we are continuing the conversation and diving into practical ways to speak up with confidence in everyday situations.
Living gluten-free isn’t about being demanding. It’s about protecting your health and creating a life where you can truly thrive.
I’m sharing real-life examples and practical strategies for advocating in restaurants, social settings, workplaces, and schools, while also helping your children learn to advocate for themselves as they grow.
This episode will help you stop putting off your needs and start recognizing that your health matters.
In This Episode, We Discuss:
Why advocating for yourself gluten-free is a skill you can learn
Ways to navigate dinners at friends’ homes and social events
Speaking up at work events, catered lunches, and office meetings
How to communicate with schools, teachers, and staff to protect gluten-free children
Helping children learn confidence in advocating for themselves
Why asking for what you need is not being “too much”
How speaking up helps educate the world about celiac disease and gluten-free living

If this episode encourages you, share it with another gluten-free friend who needs help learning how to speak up with confidence.
And come join our gluten-free community to continue the conversation, because the more we support one another, the stronger and more confident we become in living gluten-free.
What’s one way you are learning to advocate for yourself or your family?

Why gluten-free and low-carb are completely different
What carbohydrates actually are (and why your body needs them)
The difference between simple vs. complex carbs
Why cutting carbs can leave you feeling exhausted and under-fueled

Do you believe that going gluten-free is easy now?

The truth is that gluten-free products are everywhere, from grocery store aisles to restaurant menus to social media. It looks like going gluten-free should be simple.

Yet once women start this journey on their own, they are still feeling overwhelmed, confused, and continue to get sick.

In this episode of Saying Goodbye to Gluten, we’re breaking down another common myth in the gluten-free world:
“Gluten-free is so easy now—I don’t need help.”

The truth?

Gluten-free has become more visible… but not more understood.

And that gap is exactly why so many women struggle.
 In This Episode, You’ll Learn:
Why gluten-free appears easier today—but isn’t necessarily safer
The hidden dangers of cross-contamination at home and in restaurants
Why gluten-free products don’t automatically mean a healthy lifestyle
The mental load of living gluten-free (and why it feels so overwhelming)
What’s actually missing when you try to “figure it out on your own”
How to shift from reactive gluten-free living → confident, sustainable routines
I can honestly say, from personal experience, that going gluten-free on your own is not an easy path to take!

But, we can create an easier gluten-free life moving forward.

If you’re not there yet, possibly it’s because:
You haven’t been taught the systems
You’re trying to piece everything together alone
You’re relying on products instead of building a lifestyle

What looks easy on the outside is usually supported by systems you just don’t see.

Once we set the foundation and boundaries we need, we can start living an easier gluten-free life.

Join Jennifer in this third episode of the Debunking Gluten-Free Myths Series to learn why it’s not as easy as it looks and what you can do about it starting today.
